To strengthen its presence in the Mexican market in 2022, the company will focus on manufacturing electric buses, selling electric trucks, and creating a new generation of chassis.
After a complicated year for the heavy-duty vehicle industry, manufacturer Scania Mexico closed the 2021 fiscal year with 740 units of buses and cargo trucks sold in the Mexican Market.
Separately, its cargo market had a record-breaking year. It doubled its total sales compared to 2020, with a total of 567 vehicles.
Of these units, 527 were fifth wheel trailers and 40 Class 8, setting themselves in fourth place nationally in cargo truck manufacturing according to ANPACT and INEGI.
Mauricio de Alba, Scania Trucks’ Sales and Post-sales director commented, “Without a doubt, this has been the best period in the brand’s history in Mexico with regard to trucks and buses.
We began to commercialize them four years ago and, against all odds, we grew 105.4% compared to 2020 when we sold 276 units.”
In a press release, the company mentioned that, due to customer confidence in their vehicles, all the stock available in 2022 has been already allocated. It will open orders for 2023 this year, with a goal to sell 3,000 units in Mexico alone.
With respect to the bus and passenger transport segment, in 2021 Scania noticed an increase in demand compared to 2020, as it sold 173 units: 154 for long distances and 19 for urban routes.
“We’ve improved noticeably. Even though we’re not yet back to pre-pandemic activity levels, we keep on this growth path. The only way to grow is to keep showing the value of our sustainable products, innovating, and offering integral solutions for each one of our services” stated Jorge Navarro, Scania Buses’ Sales and Post-sales Director.
Another achievement was the creation of a financial unit that backed over 70% of Scania’s commercial operations.
Scania has promised that in 2022, it will launch its best EV truck in Mexico, and for the bus market, it will launch test electric units in a joint venture with Beccar.
In addition, one of the most anticipated moments for the manufacturer is the presentation of a new generation of chassis, which will bring benefits for their clients and the urban environment.
