The government of Yucatan inaugurated the ‘Va y Ven’ peripheral route in Merida during November 2022. This project connects more than 120 nearby neighborhoods and 155 transport routes, which will offer service to more than 144,000 inhabitants.
The new ‘Va y Ven’ peripheral route covers the 50-kilometer length of the Merida Ring Road, connecting more than 120 nearby neighborhoods and the 155 transport routes that cross this road.
It also has real-time tracking and aims to offer citizens faster transfers with time and money savings, without the need to reach the Historic Center.
How will the ‘Va y Ven’ route work in Merida?
The route includes nine starting points, in a first stage with four stops: Faculty of Engineering of the Autonomous University of Yucatan (UADY), Nora Quintana, Tixcacal and Quetzalcóatl, from where the first units will depart, and every 15 minutes others will be added so that, between 5:25 and 5:40 in the morning, 20 buses are already operating.
From that time until 9:00 am, they will have a frequency of 15 minutes, then it will decrease to 20 minutes until 4:00 pm when the traffic of people increases.
What will be the hours of the ‘Va y Ven’ route?
This route will have a schedule from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. High-end buses will be used, which will be running at an average speed of 60 kilometers per hour and will have a capacity of 80 passengers.
The buses are driven by 48 drivers, 38 men and 10 women.
Benefits of the Route
The implementation of this new route will not only benefit the residents of the area, but it also brought infrastructure.
According to state information, of the 5 new fixed bridges, one is a double arch model and the remaining four are “Y” type.
Pedestrian traffic lights are being installed at all intersections in the city of Merida, and 72 kilometers of bike lanes are being built so that people who move by bicycle have the opportunity for fast and safe mobility.
